The ACT Champs 24 hour and 8 hour events were held on 23-24 April in the high country of Kosciuszko National Park. A fine weekend but very cold overnight for competitors. Over 200 people enjoyed the wide open plains with subtle features but great visibility, and open snow-gum, sallee and mountain ash forests. All controls on the large course were visited meaning people experienced quite a bit of variety including three high country huts.
Results are posted on the event page.
The 2021 Twilight in the Trees 3 hour rogaine finally happened! A perfect afternoon with thunderstorms bypassing well away. Overall winners, clearing the course with 25 minutes to spare were Thomas Banks and Brad Vallette on 2030 points. Susie Sprague and Kathie Dent won the women's with 1880 and David Osmond and Melissa Clarke won the mixed on 1760. A big thanks to our remote event coordinator Benita Sommerville, in-town coordinator Julie Quinn, setters Jeannie Douglass and Ron Simpson and on the day helpers.
ACTRA got back into the bush in the beautiful, spring-like Tarlo National Park for the Tango in the Tarlo 6 and 12 hour rogaines. A grey, showery day detered a few teams but those 53 teams that made the effort were rewarded with views of a pumping Tarlo River and water where there are blue lines on the map, masses of flowers and a super course set by Jean Douglass and Ron Simpson.
Results are on the event page. Congratulations to Lee Rice and Craig Cowen who won the six hour event and Ronnie Taib and David Williams who won the 12 hour event.
A big thank you to our setters and vetters Ron Simpson, Jean Douglass, Keith Thomas, Lorraine Tomlins, Peggy Douglass; to Hartley Lifecare for catering; and to our wonderful host Rod McWhirter and other landholders including the NSW National Parks.
Meet Rob - ACTRA’s 4th of July Winter 4 hour ‘Rob Roygaine’ that is. This year we were back in the Rob Roy Nature Reserve just south of Tuggeranong for the first time for 10 years - last used at the height of the Gillard era on election night in 2010 and for the 2011 Paddy Pallin.
