Only 8 weeks until the Ridgy Didge Australian Rogaining Championships! Print E-mail

It's 8 weeks to go till the 'Ridgy Didge' event, so plan on a few extra walks or runs to get those legs and minds into gear!!

Take the bus to and from the event for safe travels. We have scheduled a bus to go to the event from Canberra on Saturday morning 6.45am.  The intention is to also run a bus from Sydney on Friday afternoon coming via Canberra at about 6pm.  Return buses leave the HH at 2pm.

Mont Adventure Equipment have a great special on the event T-shirt ($47.95) and 20% off any other equipment that is bought at the same time. See the Mont web site for details. T-shirts must be ordered no later than 14 April (ie before Easter).

If you are not not familiar with the rules of rogaining, or need to brush up on them, please read these on the Australian Rogaining website. A few basics are that you can only use your compass, basic time piece and the map to navigate. That is: no GPS capable devices (unless these are in a special sealed bag), no altimetres and no other maps. Teams must stay together and be in voice contact the whole time and compulsory equipment for this event is a whistle and space blanket.

P1060041.jpgThe event will be using the navlight scoring system which many of you will be familiar with. If not this is how it works: All team members will be provided with a small green 'tag' which looks a bit like a toy wrist watch. You attach this with a tamper-proof wrist band and it must be worn for the whole event. At each control all team members must insert the navlight unit (looks like a thick pencil) into the green tag. The navlight will flash to indicate it has connected and scored. At the end of the event, the tags are scanned and you receive a print-out of all the controls you visited with split times and the total. Even though you might be pretty tired, check the printout to make sure it is correct.

Great course for Paddy Pallin 6 hr rogaine Print E-mail

The Paddy Pallin rogaine set by Tom Banks and Keira Doherty in the Orroral Valley was excellent.  They avoided the scrubby bits and provided an entertaining challenge up and down the valley for everyone.  Congratulations to all the winners including overall champs Craig Cowan and Paul Imhoff.  Many thanks to our vetters Jean Douglass, Ron Simpson, Glenn Bridgart and other helpers Owen Cameron, David Longo, Jonathan D'Arcy and Claire Edwards.

Friday 17 February has been declared a total fire ban day in the ACT, and the ANU O week event and the twilight event will NOT proceed.

We regret any inconvenience. In due course, we will provide further information to those who have entered about their registrations, including the option of refunds.

Paddy Pallin rogaine Sunday 5 March 10am-4pm: entries are now open Print E-mail

This year we return to the historic Orroral Valley, with its wide expanses of open kangaroo fields. The Hash House will be placed at the site of the former Orroral space tracking station. See more photos from the course setters.

The Paddy Pallin rogaine is generally our most popular event each year, providing a great introduction to our sport for novices, as well as a solid test for the experienced. Then there is there bonus of Paddy Pallin equipment give-aways at the end, and the end-of-event feast.

Entries are now open, so enter here by Wednesday 1 March.

2017 Australian Rogaining Championships 6-7 May entries are open. Print E-mail
P1060005__1_.jpgACTRA is organising this year's Australian Rogaining Championships, which will be held just north of Cooma. The area is ideal rogaining country: attractive open woodlands allowing fast and comfortable travel, with views towards the Snowy Mountains. Former world rogaining category champions, Ron Simpson and Jean Douglass, have set the course to the high standards ACTRA has maintained with major events.
This will be ACTRA's signature event for 2017.
We have created a separate website chock-full of information and photos, and this is where you enter. Make sure you plan this event into your diary.
