NSWRA 6 hour Paddy Pallin event, Sunday 18 June - near Canberra Print E-mail

Another gift to ACT rogainers from the NSWRA. The 6 hour 2017 NSWRA Paddy Pallin event on Sunday 18 June will be held close to Canberra in the sort of open farming country that nurtured the early development of rogaining. The event will be held at Arthursleigh, a farm owned by The University of Sydney. Arthursleigh is located at Big Hill, 29 km north of Marulan in the Southern Highlands. The commercial property is predominantly sheep grazing.
The course features extensive farmland, stunning open bushland and extended river pools. There is a vast variety of fences, but, many of the paddocks are large enough to contain several controls, and, both the bush tracts and the river frontage are essentially fence -free. The landform switches between granite outcrops and metamorphic spur-gully which should entertain all navigators.
Entries are due to open on 16 May on the NSWRA website1.jpg

Barkley's homecoming at Ridgy Didge ARC Print E-mail

Barkley: A little Koala Searching for a Home
It was 11:00 am, the rogaine was due to start in only an hour, and still no one had volunteered to take me! What was wrong, was I not wanted….maybe it was time to look outside the rogaining community for a more permanent home rather than waiting for months at a time to be dusted off…
But wait, here was Natalie, maybe she could help. Yes, she would take me. I explained my dilemma, she seemed surprised, but agreed to help me search for a new home while she explored Ridgy Didge. But, wondered Natalie, was I over-reacting, perhaps all that was needed was a “new look” Barkley that would catch the eye of rogainers. So began my adventure in the 2017 Australian Rogaining championships, part house hunting, part fashion show, oh yes, and a bit of navigation and walking thrown in as well.

Tip top Ridgy Didge Rogaine Print E-mail

The Australian Champs and Inter-Varsity Champs was a fantastic event. Superb setting by Ron Simpson and Jean Douglass in the Black Ridge - Chakola area SE of Canberra provided a great technical challenge in a beautiful area. Travel was quick with little undergrowth but required attention to navigation to find the controls. Many teams took advantage of the "Cuppa 'n' tucker" all night cafe and stayed out on course all night. Check out the photo gallery where event photos are loaded - contact Julie if you've got some to share too.

Congratulations to 2017 overall Australian Champs David Baldwin and Julie Quinn; and to overall Inter-Varsity Champs Fergus Macleod and Max Messenger. With lots of category winners, ACT also took out the Australian Champs inter-state point score competition. See the results page for all the category winners and other teams.

Thank you to the many volunteers who made the event possible, and the welcoming landholders.

Ridgy Didge Australian Champs - entries close 1 May Print E-mail

The local koalas are getting excited.  Only a couple of weeks before they can watch teams navigating past their tree top posts.  The best time for you to see the koalas is at night.  Their eyes shine brightly in the torch light. This is the home territory of ACT's pet koala "Barkley". Named after the amazing koalas in this area that are known to eat bark. See this amazing video

Entries close on 1st May.  Come and exercise off all that Easter chocolate.

Buses are running from Sydney on Friday and from Canberra on Saturday morning.  Book your seats for a social time going to the event and a well earnt sleep on the way back.

Dinner on Friday night and breakfast on Saturday morning is also available for purchase.  It’s a fund raiser for the local Jerangle Primary School and they make fantastic tucker!

See you at the event!
