After spending the early part of the event helping at the Hash House, I took the opportunity to head out on Sunday morning with a team who had done 6 hours on Saturday afternoon and slept all night.  I can’t say I blame them; even I refused to come out of my sleeping bag on the Sunday morning.

So it was onto the back of one of my new team members and off, for what they said was going to be a short easy Sunday stroll to add a few extra controls to their score.  After hearing about their navigational wins of the previous day, I was somewhat surprised when they completely overshot our first intended target.  I suspect they were trying to impress me and overstating their credentials.  When I heard them say its ok we’ll grab it on the way back, it was time for me to step in and do the navigating.

After checking the map, I successfully led us to control 65 to enjoy the view down the valley, before doubling back to collect 47 (which they had missed on the way to 65).

We then decided to spend some time looking at the relics of a past time in the region rather than look for more controls, before heading back to the HH for an early finish and some famous Rogaine toasties.

While it was only a short exploration for me at the ACT Champs this year, my teammates lamented the fact I hadn’t come out with them on the Saturday, which would have been fun.

Oh well, next time…
