Barkley: Metrogaine 2018 Race Report Print E-mail
After a busy time in the Flinders Rangers winning the South Australian Rogaine Champs with his two hangers oners Julie and David, Barclay decided he'd like a chilled Metrogaine. https://photos.smugmug.com/2018-Events/2018-Metrogaine-1/i-4SW4rcd/0/9aa40141/L/IMG_20180812_125510777-L.jpg

He looked around at all assembled on Sunday morning and settled on two young fellows, Sam and Angus. They looked like the kind of kids Barclay wanted to spend the day with. What he didn't see though was the two caffeine addicted adults that accompanied these boys.

The horn sounded, the event started and Team 63 meandered off somewhat after the masses to collect their first control. Barclay high fiving himself. Yes! This was the right team to hang with.

A few controls later and Team 63 settled into a table at the Cook Shops cafe. It was here that Barclay realised that he LIKED strong long black coffees. (Sorry Julie and David if Barclay seems a little skittish maybe it's the caffeine withdrawals, he should be ok in a couple days).

It wasn't all fun though. Well actually, it was, although some hard work was involved. Barclay and Team 63 collected controls from all the high points with expansive views across Canberra, from the Pinnacle across to Bruce Ridge and all the nice bushland in-between. Team 63 chose to explore the nice Canberra bushland instead of maximising points in the suburbs.

22km was walked, 860 points collected with Sam and Angus carrying out quite a bit of the navigation. It was a great day. Barclay was the perfect team member, he went along with every decision. The boys were powered all the way to the finish line with a smile on their faces the entire day.

Thanks for a great event
