ACT Champs Entries Open Print E-mail

Need to burn off those Easter calories? Hop along to the ACT Rogaining Championships and 8 hour on the weekend of 18/19 May. Entries are open now! Please consider booking bus travel with your entry – don’t trust your tired self getting to and from the event.

The 24 hour event is also the Australian Intervarsity Championships. All eligible ACT Intervarsity teams get a $100 discount to encourage participation, thanks to Nigel Aylott Memorial Sports Foundation (NAMSF) and ACTRA. All team members must be from the same institution. It is the 50th anniversary of intervarsity rogaining - see history on ARA website. In honour of the occasion, David Hogg, one of the founding organisers will be presenting the awards for the event.

We will be returning to Bournda on far south NSW’s stunning Sapphire Coast for the first time since 2014. Recent rains have made this jewelled area all the more splendid, especially in the patches of rainforest micro-climate. Venture down from the coastal ranges through the dense melaleuca (note to self: bring insect repellent) all the way to the sea – course-setters have even been rewarded with an April swim at Bournda Beach and Bondi Lake.

You are welcome to camp at the well-appointed Hobart Beach campground (book here) in Bournda National Park (pay park fee $8 per vehicle at the entrance), but there will also be free camping available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Hash House, which this year is at a superb new venue about 15 minutes’ drive from there, inland from Tura Beach – final details to be revealed a week before the event. Remember vote 1 Kate Miller-Heidke for Eurovision, and better pre-poll for that other election on 18 May too!
