ACT 24hr Champs and 8 hr event 14-15 April 2012

The ACT champs on 14-15 April 2012 will be in a new area an hour from Canberra - native forest with no scrub - a rogainers dream come true.  Dry eucalypt forest, clear underfoot, beautiful spurs and gullies, gentle hills and koalas that eat bark – what more could you ask for?

The area is mainly privately owned but not farmed, and has a history of gold mining. It is an easy hour and a bit drive south of Canberra.  There are a few fire trails for speedier travel and controls near the Hash House will be easier navigation for beginners.  Not so for controls further out!

Catering included in entry and provided by Hartley Lifecare.  All night café too.

If you can’t do the event, we’d love some help with admin on the weekend.  Contact Jean Douglass on 6248 9874.  Entries will be opened before 18 March 2012.

Please consider who you can give a copy of the attached brochure to or which noticeboard you can put it on.

Welcome to rogaining in 2012

Happy rogaining new year.

The calendar for 2012 has been set - have you put the dates into your diary?  The first event for the year is the Paddy Pallin 6 hr to be held on 18 March.  This will be a bush event close to Canberra.  More details very soon.

Membership renwals are now due for 2012.  Memberships run on a calendar year and it makes the membership officer's job much easier if you renew now.  We are working on a better membership system that will run in conjunction with event entries but in the meantime we are using a web form and BPay system.

Spring 6/12 hr - Saturday 15 October

The Spring rogaine was held in the great Slap-Up area of Jerangle.  wheelsCourse setters Mike and Marg Harrap provided a great course with a good mix of very fast open country and more heavily timbered areas.  A few of the vague granite knolls and gullies caught some teams out and the snakes that quite a few teams saw got the teams moving quickly!  Despite these challenges a lot of fun was had.  Jerangle P and C put on a good spread for teams in the shearing shed of Slap-Up owners Lisa Phillips and Dick Walker.  Thank you to organiser Aaron Coles and helpers Glenn Bridgart and Julie Quinn.

Congratulations to overall 6 hr winners Paul Veldkamp, Vince Craig and David Singleton and to overall 12 hr winners Phil Whitten and Pam Muston. Full results and navlight splits are on the event page.  Also see the photo gallery.

A 6hr Ay-Up battery was left behind.  Please contact Julie if it is yours.

Night/Day/Bike rogaine

Kowen Forest was alive with rogainers last weekend with the night, day and bike rogaines.  Some competitors took advantage of being able to rogaine on both days by competing in both events!  The events were good fun with most teams only returning just before the finish.  It did have the organisers peering into the forest on Saturday evening 30 minutes before the finish wondering if they would see any teams returning.

Congratulations to Seb Dunne, Danielle Winslow and Aaron Coles for winning the night event, to Jonathan Miller, Cameron Logue, and David Jenkins for winning the day event, and Ria Johansen and Walter Johansen for winning the bike event.  Full results available and a few pre-start photos from the night event.  Michael Reed also wrote a report.  John Harding took photos of the day and bike rogaine on the Sunday so have a look at these.
