It is with regret that the Mongarlowe Map Madness weekend for 28 to 29 March has been cancelled.
As some of you know it was to have included many activities including map reading training, a rogaining workshop, a girls training episode, an MBTO training workshop (which will still go ahead) , and a high quality orienteering event but the primary purpose of this weekend has always been to encourage social interaction between map readers of various specialities.
Now the coronavirus pandemic has hit which makes the whole aim of having social interaction a significant health issue. With so many people in one place we have to consider their safety.
Hopefully the two years of planning and the many hours spent updating the map and preparing the challenging courses and negotiating with other community groups will not have been wasted and Orienteering ACT will be able to stage this event in the future.
