Clear with action

Spring sunshine saw 83 teams out at Mount Clear for the 6 or 12 hour event.  The hotly contested 6 hour was won overall by Matthew Crane and Martin Dent by a whopping 1750 points. Paul Cuthbert and Tara Sutherland won the mixed open and mixed vets with 1300 and the Wilkinson family won the family category with a great score of 1030 points.  Check out the full results.

Barkley spent time whizzing through the bush with 12 hour teams until he was stolen by those thieving NSW lot. Fortunately David, Julie and Tom were whizzing just a bit faster and won overall with 2640 points.  Thanks to all the volunteers and of course Barkley’s sage advice.  See event photos in the Photo Gallery.

Barkley: Metrogaine 2018 Race Report
After a busy time in the Flinders Rangers winning the South Australian Rogaine Champs with his two hangers oners Julie and David, Barclay decided he'd like a chilled Metrogaine. https://photos.smugmug.com/2018-Events/2018-Metrogaine-1/i-4SW4rcd/0/9aa40141/L/IMG_20180812_125510777-L.jpg

He looked around at all assembled on Sunday morning and settled on two young fellows, Sam and Angus. They looked like the kind of kids Barclay wanted to spend the day with. What he didn't see though was the two caffeine addicted adults that accompanied these boys.

Kowen Forest Winter 4 hr - 15 July 2018

The Winter 4 hr lived up to its name with a frosty start. The sun broke through at the start and turned into a beautiful cool day. Many people enjoyed a well-set course by Matthew Hollingworth that took in pine forest of varying ages and the open native bush on the escarpment above Sutton Road. A special mention to the many families who came out. Congratulations to the overall winners Brad Carron-Arthur and Richard Dunley, and the Ross, Sandy, Scott and Leanne Wilkinson who won the family category. Thank you to all the volunteers and an apology from Hartley Lifecare to those who missed out on food at the end when they ran short.

Kowen Forest Wintergaine

The 2018 Winter Rogaine returns to Kowen Forest, but don't be fooled. We have a fresh focus on the Kowen Escarpment, with almost half the controls located in delightfully open native forest adjacent the pine plantation. The rolling terrain and creek system of the escarpment is balanced by flatter ground and numerous tracks within the plantation, providing something for all tastes and abilities. Some interesting watercourse features and views round out the course. To top it off, our map features exquisite 5-metre contours from a recent aerial survey.

Barkley's Race Report: ACT Champs 2018

After spending the early part of the event helping at the Hash House, I took the opportunity to head out on Sunday morning with a team who had done 6 hours on Saturday afternoon and slept all night.  I can’t say I blame them; even I refused to come out of my sleeping bag on the Sunday morning.

So it was onto the back of one of my new team members and off, for what they said was going to be a short easy Sunday stroll to add a few extra controls to their score.  After hearing about their navigational wins of the previous day, I was somewhat surprised when they completely overshot our first intended target.  I suspect they were trying to impress me and overstating their credentials.  When I heard them say its ok we’ll grab it on the way back, it was time for me to step in and do the navigating.
