Cracking day for the metrogaine Print E-mail

Canberra turned on another stunning late winter day for the metrogaine – this time through the city's western suburbs between the Molonglo and Murrumbidgee Rivers. Participants enjoyed expansive views from north Weston over the new Molonglo Valley suburbs, and most managed to navigate through Weston Creek and Kambah between the coffee stops. Family teams discovered that children's playgrounds have come a long way over the decades (since some of us started rogaining anyway), but Stephen Goggs’s diverting course also offered the time-honoured challenge of scaling the heights of the Canberra Nature Park at Mt Arawang, Mt Taylor and McQuoid's Hill in Tuggeranong. Special mentions go to overall winner Martin Dent, Women’s Open winner Susie Sprague, Colleen Mock – whose score gave her 4th 2nd and two 1st places in different age classes, and the unsung but thoroughly wet heroics of 14th placed Graham Atkins, who managed to rescue his daypack from floating down the Molonglo River but not his map – tricky problem when you are in a solo team! Look here for provisional results and here for photos of the event.

Thanks to all who made the day happen including setters/vetters, Stephen Goggs and Alex Tyson, on the day helpers and caterers, Hartley Lifecare.

Come and explore Penrose State Forest and surrounding private land. There's some great single track for the mountain bikers as well as plenty to keep the foot participants enterained. Join us for an early Spring event with a mix of native and pine forests.

Control collectors and on the day admin helpers are still needed for both Saturday night and Sunday. You can do one event and help out in the other - what an opportunity! Feel good about volunteering without missing out on an event. If you can help out with any of these roles, contact Claire

Super turn out for the night rogaines Print E-mail

Almost 500 people braved the elements on Friday and Saturday nights to attend the rogaines this weekend, the lions share from ANU. Star of the  weekend award goes to Ella Cuthbert, David Stocks and Zoe Melhuish who as the only junior team, came in 5th overall and beat all the ANU teams from the night before. Martin Dent and Rob Walter managed to clear the course in 2:45 and top honours in the ANU category went to William Tribe and Thomas Etheridge. Congratulations to everyone who participated!

Thanks goes to setters and vetters, Owen Cameron, Brad Vallette and Tom Brazier for a great course. Thanks also to caterers, Hartley Lifecare and event coordinator, Lee Rice who did a fabulous job managing an unexpectedly big field. And who can forget all those on the day helpers who made it all run so smoothly. See you all at our next event, the metrogaine.
