Tri-logaine triumph

Night winners

The moon shone brightly on the 86 folks who ventured out into Kowen Forest and Sparrow Hill for the nightgaine.  Kathy and Anne (sole entants last year) had some stiff competition, although they won the women's supevets category with Parissa's help.  Craig Cowan (alias Kowen) and Paul Imhoff were the overall winners with 1550 points (pictured right).

2014 ACT Champs navigation challenges

The course for the 2014 ACT champs was a pleasure to set in such a beautiful area, and being a championship event Julie and I wanted to make it challenging to plan a course and also set some controls that would test even the most experienced navigators.

Vale Geoff Mercer

It is with great sadness that we inform the ACTRA rogaining community of the passing on Saturday (12th April) afternoon of Geoff Mercer.

Geoff was a passionate rogainer through the 1990’s and early 2000’s.  He was a life member of ACTRA and President for many years.  He also served the Australian Rogaining Association as Secretary, and was the organizer and course setter of the 2002 Australian Rogaining Championships.  Geoff’s involvement in ACTRA established many of the ways we do things in our association and was a great source of wise counsel and thoughtful guidance for many people both competing and organizing events.

2014 ACT Rogaining Champs and 8 hr event

2014_ACT_Champs_-_Crossing_Murrumbidgee_1.pngThe Long Plain-gaine featured the high country of the northern Kosciusko National Park with open plains, and black sallee and snowgum forests. Lots of rain in the previous week and the night before raised the level of the Murumbidgee River so that many teams got more than just their feet wet crossing. Competitors took in the relatively recent history of the high country through four old huts on the course and hundreds of brumbies. Many smiling faces at the end of the event from our 5 year olds through to the supervets showed that the country had performed it's magic on competitors as well as the course setters.

2014 Paddy Pallin Wrap Up

Close to 500 people enjoyed a glorious day at Yankee Hat in Namadgi National Park for the ‘Yankee Hatagaine’, the 2014 Paddy Pallin 6hr Rogaine on Sunday 2 March. Numbers were boosted by the large contingent of ANU students preparing for the upcoming Inward Bound challenge.

With only a few clouds in the sky competitors planned their routes choosing the more open northern section, the bush in the south – or a mixture of the two! Plenty of wildlife was spotted – lizards galore, eagles and kangaroos with more than a few snakes out and about. One team even claimed they couldn't punch control 62 because there was a big snake at the control. They took a photo to prove they had been there!
