Australian Rogaining and Australian University Rogaining Champs

Best wishes to the eleven ACT teams heading to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia for the Australian Rogaining Championships on 5-6 May.  Especially to Gallen Correy and Oliver Lee who are the ACT reps for the Australian Univerisity Championships to be held at the same time.

The ACT rogaining champions for 2012 have been decided. Congratulations to:

Vets men: Graham Atkins, Greg Lane

Supervets mixed: Marg Harrap, Mike Harrap

Supervets women: Kathy Saw, Anne Sawkins

The ACT Champs and 8-hr event lived up to the promises from course setters Jean Douglass and Ron Simpson.  It was a beautiful area perfect for rogaining with open tree cover with little undergrowth and good spur-gully country to keep the navigation interesting.  Two teams saw a koala.

Congratulations to the 8hr winners.  The team of Martin Dearnley, Louise Dearnley, Graham Field, and Tristan White won overall.

Paddy Pallin 6hr results available

Preliminary results for the Paddy Pallin 6hr are available on the event page.  A superb day and a superb course.  If you had a great day write a short story for the web page or send David email if you have photos to share.

ACT 24hr Champs and 8 hr event 14-15 April 2012

The ACT champs on 14-15 April 2012 will be in a new area an hour from Canberra - native forest with no scrub - a rogainers dream come true.  Dry eucalypt forest, clear underfoot, beautiful spurs and gullies, gentle hills and koalas that eat bark – what more could you ask for?

The area is mainly privately owned but not farmed, and has a history of gold mining. It is an easy hour and a bit drive south of Canberra.  There are a few fire trails for speedier travel and controls near the Hash House will be easier navigation for beginners.  Not so for controls further out!

Catering included in entry and provided by Hartley Lifecare.  All night café too.

If you can’t do the event, we’d love some help with admin on the weekend.  Contact Jean Douglass on 6248 9874.  Entries will be opened before 18 March 2012.

Please consider who you can give a copy of the attached brochure to or which noticeboard you can put it on.
