Metrogainers sweep through Gungahlin

P60709_110459.jpgColleen Mock and her team delivered a metrogaine with all the ingredients for a great event: a delightful course through attractive streetscapes and urban bushland; excellent event documentation, and mild and dry Canberra weather. The event marked the 25th anniversay of the Gungahlin township, and the course visited a number of historic sites in the area.

Class shone through in the results. Four competitors cleared the course, with Martin Dent finishing ahead of Rob Walter, Matthew Crane and Paul Cuthbert. In the women's category, Clare Lonergan edged out Susie Sprague, while Keira Doherty and Tom Banks took out the mixed event. Full results are posted on our website; photos are at our Smugmug site.

Our thanks as always to the organisers and volunteers who brought us the event, and to Hartley Lifecare who once more produced a delicious post-event feast.

A pair of brown spectacles was left at the event. If they might be yours, please contact Colin at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Big turn out for ACT and intervarsity championship event

champs

Deua National Park around Snowball provided some brilliant rogaining country this year for the ACT 24hr Rogaining Championships, incorporating an 8 hr event and the 2016 Intervarsity Rogaining Championships. Over 215 people took part and the course provided them with a mix of mature open forest, open flat areas, hilly terrain and plenty of creeks, one of which needed to be forded at the start of the event. Nothing like starting with wet feet!

No-one managed to clear the course, but Rob Walter and Paul Cuthbert came very close taking, home the men’s open and men’s veterans categories. Gill Fowler and Jess Baker took home the women’s open trophy. The Intervarsity Championship was taken out by Thomas Etheridge and William Tribe from ADFA and Clayton Balmain and Grace Crane won the 8hr. See where a bunch of teams went on Strava.

Many thanks to all our volunteers who made it happen, the land owners and Hartley Lifecare for keeping everyone wellfed, especially in the challenging weather conditions on the Sunday.

Paddy Pallin event provides great rogaining terrain

12593696_959394134113794_395863496707098470_o.jpgThe eastern side of the Tallaganda Range provides magnificent rogaining country. This year at Kindervale competitors traversed rolling grazing country and pine plantations, and stretched hamstrings leaping numerous creek crossing.

Martin Dent and Rob Walter cleared the course in 5 hours 35 minutes, ahead of mixed open winners Clare Lonergan and Kieran Macdonell. Judi Barton and Danealle Gilfillan took home the women's open trophy.

Many thanks to all our volunteers who made the course happen, property owners, Paddy Pallin and the Jerangle caterers for fine munch.
