Spectacular day for the Winter 4 hour Print E-mail

ACTRA couldn't have asked for a more perfect day on Sunday, 2nd July. The sun was bright all day and without a breath of wind, it was shorts and t-shirt weather. There were 22 family teams entered and lots of Uni students, so the event did the ACT government grant proud in encouraging young and new participants. Googong was a lovely location for the day with open bushland in the easy spots and undulating hills (unless you got a little more adventurous). The overall winners were Keira Doherty and Tom Banks; closely followed by Anthony Newman and Brad Vallette and some super super vets Mike Hotchkis and Pam Muston. It just goes to show, speed is not always the winning ingredient in a rogaine!

Thanks to setters and vetters, Susie Sprague, Martin Dent and Graham Atkins. Thanks also to all the helpers on the day as well as the usual grand spread from Hartley Lifecare. Preliminary results are now available here.

Entries for winter 4 hour now open! Print E-mail

Join ACTRA for this family friendly event on the shores of Googong Dam. It's the start of the school holidays, Sunday the 2nd of July from 10:30 - 2:30. Being only 30km from the centre of Canberra, you'll still get a sleep in and make it out there on time! There's a challenge for everyone with some surprisingly good views, open, flatter country and steep hills to keep the competitive souls engaged. And with a good feed at the end from Hartley Life Care, how could you possibly resist?

Entries accepted before June 26th, after that pay an additional late fee. And remember, kids under 14 participate for free. Click here to enter

NSWRA 6 hour Paddy Pallin event, Sunday 18 June - near Canberra Print E-mail

6.jpg

Another gift to ACT rogainers from the NSWRA. The 6 hour 2017 NSWRA Paddy Pallin event on Sunday 18 June will be held close to Canberra in the sort of open farming country that nurtured the early development of rogaining. The event will be held at Arthursleigh, a farm owned by The University of Sydney. Arthursleigh is located at Big Hill, 29 km north of Marulan in the Southern Highlands. The commercial property is predominantly sheep grazing.
The course features extensive farmland, stunning open bushland and extended river pools. There is a vast variety of fences, but, many of the paddocks are large enough to contain several controls, and, both the bush tracts and the river frontage are essentially fence -free. The landform switches between granite outcrops and metamorphic spur-gully which should entertain all navigators.
Entries are due to open on 16 May on the NSWRA website1.jpg

Barkley's homecoming at Ridgy Didge ARC Print E-mail

Barkley: A little Koala Searching for a Home
It was 11:00 am, the rogaine was due to start in only an hour, and still no one had volunteered to take me! What was wrong, was I not wanted….maybe it was time to look outside the rogaining community for a more permanent home rather than waiting for months at a time to be dusted off…
But wait, here was Natalie, maybe she could help. Yes, she would take me. I explained my dilemma, she seemed surprised, but agreed to help me search for a new home while she explored Ridgy Didge. But, wondered Natalie, was I over-reacting, perhaps all that was needed was a “new look” Barkley that would catch the eye of rogainers. So began my adventure in the 2017 Australian Rogaining championships, part house hunting, part fashion show, oh yes, and a bit of navigation and walking thrown in as well.
