Biggest rogaine ever! Print E-mail

2016 winter rogaine at TidbinbillaClose to 300 people participated each day on Saturday and Sunday at this years winter 4 hour - ACTRA's biggest rogaine ever! The fabulous weather helped create a great day for everyone. In the ANU event on Saturday, David Baldwin, Eoin Farrell and Brad Vallette won with a convincing 950 points. On Sunday, Craig Cowan and Paul Imhoff won the day with 930 points. There were some great results from the younger members with Zoe Cuthbert and Lorien Allen winning the junior category with 450 points. Ella Cuthbert brought home her Dad, Paul to come in with 740 points, 3rd in the mixed open. With 580 points, Jessica Robson, Lee and Clare Rice (plus pram) took out the family category. This event was generously supported by the ACT government aiming at encouraging our younger members so it was fabulous to see 27 family teams out on the course.

Thanks to everyone who made it happen, Glenn Bridgart for setting the course, vetters Jonathan Miller, Jean Douglass and Ron Simpson. Also to our ACTRA volunteers without whom the event couldn't have happened. Thanks to to all our helpers over the weekend from the ANU, particularly Jackson Bursill who coordinated the students.

Tidbinbillagaine now open! Print E-mail

event_photos_20130714_1207800186.jpg

We return to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve for this year's winter four hour rogaine. We’re fortunate to have such a fabulous reserve so close to Canberra, and to be allowed to access it for a rogaine. This event is being generously supported by an ACT government grant and will be run over two days. Saturday will see the ANU contingent training for their Inward Bound, while Sunday will be open to all other rogainers. Glenn Bridgart has set the course to provide entertainment for the ANU contingent, and for the many families we anticipate will come and give rogaining a go. Expect to visit some classic Tidbinbilla icons; there will be options for families to choose courses which meander through the valley.

This event is always a great opportunity to get out in winter for a short stroll or run through the bush. By mid-August the days are longer (and maybe a tad warmer?). Entries are now open, so book now. To enter the Sunday event, do so as usual through the link on this page. (ANU is separately organising entries for the Saturday university event.) Enter by Sunday 7 August to avoid a late penalty fee.

Metrogainers sweep through Gungahlin Print E-mail

P60709_110459.jpgColleen Mock and her team delivered a metrogaine with all the ingredients for a great event: a delightful course through attractive streetscapes and urban bushland; excellent event documentation, and mild and dry Canberra weather. The event marked the 25th anniversay of the Gungahlin township, and the course visited a number of historic sites in the area.

Class shone through in the results. Four competitors cleared the course, with Martin Dent finishing ahead of Rob Walter, Matthew Crane and Paul Cuthbert. In the women's category, Clare Lonergan edged out Susie Sprague, while Keira Doherty and Tom Banks took out the mixed event. Full results are posted on our website; photos are at our Smugmug site.

Our thanks as always to the organisers and volunteers who brought us the event, and to Hartley Lifecare who once more produced a delicious post-event feast.

A pair of brown spectacles was left at the event. If they might be yours, please contact Colin at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
