ACTRA First Aid Course Print E-mail
images.jpgIt is important that we have suitably qualified first aiders at all ACTRA events. ACTRA therefore runs a two-day remote area first aid course with accredited trainers every second year. We are running the next course over the weekend 18/19 March 2017. We are planning to hold the course at Blue Range Hut near Urriarra.

ACTRA will pay all fees for the course, but we ask all participants to volunteer as first aid officers for at least one ACTRA event over the following two years.

If you are interested in participating in the course, please contact Claire at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Scoop: Barkley has found a partner Print E-mail

IMG_1086.jpgThe trending news in from the Spring event is that Barkley has a new 'friend'. Spotted lying on the event map, the two koalas were resplendent in their orange sleeping bags. Barkley declined to comment on the gossip as he scurried up the nearest eucalypt, and the ACTRA Publicity Officer said the Committee wished to respect Barkley's privacy.

In other news from the Spring event, Claire Edwards and Susie Sprague set a blistering pace to take out the 6 hour event, while Martin Dent, Sam Burridge and Brad Hetharia did what they do well and took out the 12 hours, covering at least 43 kilometres.

It was great also to see visting international orienteering coaches, Katie Reynolds and Charlotte Watson (third in the 6 hour) and Jacob Lindstam (sixth in the 12 hour) savouring the joys of our wonderful sport.

Barkley (2)'s excellent Spring 2016 rogaine adventure Print E-mail

image001.png

I was really excited to be going out for 12 hours; I could hardly contain myself, well actually I couldn’t contain myself and I jumped out of Natalie’s pack after only 5 minutes on the trail. Fortunately a kind soul noticed and returned me to Natalie. After that, I took good care to hold on tight and only came out at controls, or to smell the flowers, or look for something to eat…

Here is me in my favourite pouch-almost as good as being with my real mum when I was just a joey.

Spring 6/12 hr in Yanununbeyan National Park Print E-mail

The Spring 6 hr and 12 hr events will be held on Saturday 12 November. Mike and Marg Harrap are setting the event in the Yanununbeyan National Park, Northwest of Captains Flat and just under an hour's drive from Queanbeyan. The terrain is mostly lightly wooded, with the usual forest litter underfoot and some open grassy areas, making for relatively easy progress. Of course it wouldn't be a proper course without the obligatory 'steeper sections' leading to the higher areas (elevation ranges from 800m to 1200m) and some magnificent views of the surrounding hills and farmlands. There are also some well-defined fire trails running through the course. Entries are open.
