8 hour
/ 24 hour Saturday 26th May 2007 12 noon |
The course is guaranteed to be spectacular! Situated less than 2 hours drive south of Canberra in an area that includes the Wadbilliga National Park and Badja State Forest, the course consists of a range of landscapes including rolling rural countryside, great open bushland, some very scenic boulder country as well as some denser rainforest in the further reaches of the course for the more seriously inclined. The boulder country, in particular, will ensure an interesting rogaine with a few controls requiring a bit of easy rock scrambling to reach extensive and spectacular views.
The altitude of the course ranges from around 800m to 1200m, which means it will be chilly! However, there will be fires and hot food going all night at the Hash House.
The rogaine has been designed to suit people of all skill levels and intentions. There are numerous easily accessible controls (including very scenic ones) located on or near to the good network of tracks and firetrails. Competitors interested in heading further afield will be challenged by some of the remote controls in what is occasionally very rugged country.
Thanks to friendly landholders, very little of the course is out of bounds. The map is of the scale 1:25,000 and contains all marked trails and roads. The Hash House is centrally located, and people will have no problems setting out on routes that will bring them back the fire for warmth rest and very good food. Entry fee includes full catering from 5pm Saturday through to Sunday lunch. For that reason the entry fee is the same for both events as 8 hour competitors are strongly encouraged (for safety reasons) to camp on Saturday night and enjoy breakfast before driving home.
Camping is available both Friday and Saturday nights.
